Florida Marriage License Information & Requirements

 

  • Both partners must be at least eighteen (18) years old and single to obtain a Florida marriage license.

  • You do not need to be a resident of Florida.

  • Both applicants must appear in person and provide a picture identification with the date of birth shown, such as a driver's license, passport, or student ID. You may be asked for your birth certificate.

  • Previous marriages: If either party was previously married, the applicant is required to indicate on the license application the date, county and state (or country) in which the divorce, dissolution or annulment or death of spouse for the previous marriage.

If death or divorce occurs within the past 30 days, a certified copy for the divorce decree or death certificate is required.

  • The marriage license is issued at the time of application and is valid for 60 days.

  • Cost of the marriage license fee is $93.50 and must be paid in cash. Additional discount is given for couples who have completed a state-sanctioned course within 12 months.
  • No waiting time for couples who have completed the state sanctioned wedding preparation course. If not, couples have to wait 3 days before the marriage license is validated.

Important!!

Only the marriage license issued by the Clerk of Courts in each County of Florida can be used throughout the State of Florida.

For those Under 18:

  • Above 16 but under 18: A marriage license can be obtained with parental consent.
  • Under 16: The marriage license has to be issued by a county judge, with or without parental permission.
